Hey everyone,
I’ve been running into some really weird behavior with discount codes on Jinxxy and wanted to suggest a couple of features.
Right now, fixed-value discounts ($5 off for example) and 100% off codes seem pretty exploitable.
Here’s what I think is happening:
If a $5 code is multi-use, people can seemingly open multiple tabs and apply it to different products at the same time. That makes storewide “$5 weekend vouchers” risky, because anything under $5 can basically get grabbed for free.
Even with single-use codes, I think users are racing checkout across multiple tabs before the system updates the usage count. I’ve had a 1/1 code somehow end up at 26/1 uses in analytics.
The biggest issue is 100% off giveaway codes. If they aren’t locked to a specific product, it looks like they can potentially be applied to get the entire store for free.
A couple features that would help a lot:
Limit uses per customer
Allow restricting a code to one use per account/email (or a configurable amount).
Apply fixed discounts to cart total instead of every product
Right now a $5 code appears to apply per-item instead of once to the entire cart. Having both behaviors as selectable options would be huge.
That’s pretty much it. I feel like these changes would prevent a lot of abuse while making promos and giveaways way safer to run.
